2012 - Off to a Good Start

Yesterday not only marked the first day of 2012, it also marked day one of the #WIP500 challenge. A much more exciting prospect, Id say.

If you read my last couple posts, then you know I set myself the UnResolution to write at least 500 words every day in 2012. It's not so much the number of words that pose a challenge, but the task of writing every day.

With enthusiasm, I took to my laptop and typed out not just the 500 required words, but 4,133! Yes, day one of #WIP500 proved to be lucrative. It also proved to:

a) Ruin my back to the point where I resorted to over the counter drugs to ease the pain.

b) Ensure that the pesky cold I have been fighting for nearly a week remains firmly nestled in my chest.

c) Leave my eyes feeling as though someone had squeezed them to the point of bursting.

All in the name of writing. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say, it was absolutely worth it!

Sadly, today is the last day of my holidays before I head back to work. I'm trying to ignore the simple fact that writing 4,133 words a day is not something I'll be accomplishing often. Once the pressures of routine life hit, I'll be lucky to reach that daily 500 word target. But for now, I am going to bask in the sweet success that January 1st afforded and hope that January 2nd is equally as kind.

 Are you participating in #WIP500?

Well done! It does happen that way when we sit and write and write... poor backs and bots hey? I can't believe the amount of words you wrote - I think if day two or three doesn't go as you hoped you've already made up for them and then some. x

Thanks, Diane! It's looking like day two won't be nearly as productive. This cold has me winded. I'm really happy that yesterday went so well.

Hmmm, maybe I should do that. My problem is writing daily as well. I just don't know if it's realistic. I hate that my day job gets in the way of what I really need to be doing! Writing!

I completely understand April. My day job also consumes a lot of my time (and energy) but 500 words isn't too much and at least it's something to focus on. Good luck with your writing and I hope you decide to join #WIP500!

Oh, the back to work blues! I figure I'll have to get up early and get my word count in before I go to the office. Hope your back & cold both feel better!

4K in a day? THAT is formidable. I know you can do 500/day. Sorry to hear about your back and the lingering cold. Have you ever tried Gypsy Cold Care tea? I love the stuff, always keep some around. Hope you feel better.

I've never heard of Gypsy Cold Care. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the well wishes and for stopping by D.D.!
